Convening
The summits and encyclopedias: where an industry gets defined in public, on the record.
Convening is the least understood function and the most compounding. A summit assembles the people who decide what a market is; an encyclopedia writes down what they decided. Both produce the same three yields — the relationships, the record, and the standing that comes from having been the one who wrote it down. The group treats convening as infrastructure rather than marketing, which is why the definitions are open and the standards are given away.
